It would be great if there is an option to disable the news section on the homepage to free up that screen real estate.

Totally agree. I thought that huge empty space was caused by a bug. It kinda ruins the look of the Home Page.
I can't see how I would use this feature... I host my recipes for myself and maybe a friend or 2.
