I have prepared a notebook that compares the base.nc network provided by @davide-f, with the reference EIA network topology for US available at this link. I downloaded the geoJSON file.
Please find below the initial graphical comparisons. I plot the networks grouping the lines based on the voltage classes available in the EIA dataset. More details are available in the notebook.

It seems that the PyPSA-Earth base network agrees better with the EIA reference transmission lines topology.
