ALDL-IO in crankshaft to diagnostic and view ECU data

is it possible to install aldl-io (http://ecmhack.com/misc/raspberry-pi-dashboarddatalogger/#Overview) in crankshaft interface to view ecu data from old gm cars (pre odb2) ? I'm thinking about this possibility and would make it very useful for other enthusiasts like me, I'm a programmer and I would like to help in the development of this 'feature' in the project
