See also bug 11629, which raises the same issue and proposes another solution - setting a certain key as a release to turn off all active modifier keys. |

Sticky keys are an important accessibility feature, but the version in Linux Mint isn't entirely accessible.
In Cinnamon, these are user System Settings > Accessibility > Typing Assistance > "Treat a sequence of modifier keys as a combination."
In this version, a recurring problem is that if you accidentally hit the same modifier key twice, it stays on, and modifies other key presses, mouse clicks, etc. until you identify the offending key and hit it a third time.
In MacOS, there's an on-screen indication of modifier keys which helps avoid this.
If that's impractical, in Mate, Preferences > Keyboard > Accessibility includes separate options for "Simulate simultaneous keypresses," i.e. sticky keys, and "Latch modifiers when pressed twice," so if users check "Simulate," and uncheck "Latch," it won't get stuck.
