MFEM 4.1 Released

Dear MFEM community,

Version 4.1 of MFEM was released on March 10, 2020. Some of the new additions in this release are:

• New BSD-3 license.
• Improved GPU capabilities:
  • new HIP backend, improved RAJA backend
  • faster multi-GPU MPI communications
  • support for different memory types, including UVM and Umpire
  • a debug device designed specifically to aid in GPU debugging
  • GPU acceleration in additional examples, finite element and linear algebra kernels
• Added support for:
  • libCEED, the portable library for fast high-order operator evaluation developed by the Center for Efficient Exascale Discretizations in the Exascale Computing Project
  • ParaView, including high-order Lagrange elements
  • HiOp, for solving nonlinear optimization problems
  • GSLIB-FindPoints, for general high-order interpolation in physical space
  • Ginkgo, for GPU sparse linear algebra
• Many meshing and discretization improvements:
  • support for non-conforming AMR on prisms and tetrahedra
  • mesh optimization algorithms extended to support r-adaptivity
  • complex-valued finite element operators and fields
  • serendipity elements on affinely-mapped square elements
  • partial assembly support for DG, H(curl) and many other existing and new integrators
  • block ILU(0) preconditioner for DG-type discretizations
  • new time integrators, particularly for second order ODEs
• 18 new examples and miniapps.
• Significantly improved testing.
