from a node (commonly highway=motorway_junction, in wider meaning regardless of motorway status, any 'exit' from large road)
adjacent to some way segment(s) of the larger road.
via some segment(s) highway=*_link
to another node
again adjacent to some way segment(s) of the larger road.
As in the past classifications/consensus has changed, even multiple times, some areas have been left with (parts of) link roads which are not tagged as _link. It might be possible to find at least segments which have been missed ('gaps' in link roads)
Usually, a link road will be a connection

Or look at
highway=motorway_junction
nodes without connecting_link
-likely (nearly) none except the example though-Though, some countries may apply different rules, as they apply different classification too.

(Perhaps something for JOSM validator if it's better or it can't be limited in Osmose)
