In trying to run through the procedures for managing add-ons, I find that there are no add-ons listed in my copy of Oxygen (XML Editor 16.0, build 2014070913). There is no indication, in the docs or in the interface, of anything I need to do to populate the list, so I am not sure if there is a step missing to make the add-ons show up, or if there are actually no add-ons available.

If there are none available by default, the docs need to tell people where to find add-ons.

Hi,

There's a link label in the upper part of the dialog that advises you to go to Options. Inside Options you can add this update site to check some add-ons: http://www.oxygenxml.com/InstData/Addons/optional/updateSite.xml

It might be best to wait a little with the add-ons documentation reviewing because we are currently working on the interface. The reason we are making changes is the same one you encountered: is not intuitive what you must do once you click that action.

Thanks Cristian,

Adding that URL populated the add-ons dialog. My system had the URL http://www.oxygenxml.com/InstData/Addons/default/updateSite.xml configured. Does this mean that there are no defualt add ons? If so, what is the point of having the URL configured?

Consolidating the Add Ons configuration seems like a good idea, since it is currently in three different places (Preferences, and two different entries on the Help menu. I will hold off on the docs until the changes are made.

The optional add-ons Cristian pointed you to are not "worthy" to be included as default available add-ons, they contain sample plugins which do not contribute extra useful functionality to Oxygen. These samples are usually examined by developers who construct their own plugins in order to see the architecture of a plugin.

So indeed the URL:

http://www.oxygenxml.com/InstData/Addons/default/updateSite.xml

for now does not contain any official useful addons. We added it as a default because in the future we may provide useful add-ons, for example an add on to connect Oxygen to Google Drive.

So the add-ons support topic should indeed be reviewed after we release Oxygen 16.1 in September this year.
Should I close this issue or do you want to keep it as a reminder to review to add-ons support?

Seems like we should keep it open and assign it to a milestone. There don't seem to be any milestones attached to the project at the moment. Does it make sense to add them? If so, would it make sense to use the same milestones you use internally?

This looks like a good idea, I assigned milestone 16.1 on it, it is the same milestone we are working on internally.
