We seemed to like the mbed platform, so lets look at those more. The mbed HDK (hardware development kit) has ready-made designs for these processors: NXP LPC11U24-Lite, LPC1768, and LPC812M10, as well as the Freescale KL25Z. http://mbed.org/users/mbed_official/code/mbed-HDK/file/bfc970cfffa6/

The Freescale-based dev boards seem to be a lot less expensive compared to the NXP ones, but the NXP ones seem to be more widely used.
