Scripts are really hard to read

The nested if's are really hard to read.
I re-wrote the scripts using the 'die' idiom from perl.

The patch is very hard to read.  Apply it and then revert if you don't like it.

This also updates the version to 3.30c (latest from Microchip).

You should mention in the instructions to edit env.sh before 
configure-install.sh.

It also makes sudo unnecessary if you are installing where you have write 
permissions.
