Tailwind v4 is making some pretty big changes that seem to be for the better, especially with the speed improvements made, but they are doing away with the tailwind config file.

It looks like they will not support the recommended method of using the important config setting, is there a workaround or something else we can do to move onto Tailwind v4?

Are you sure important won't be supported anymore?
I stumbled upon this PR: tailwindlabs/tailwindcss#14448

It’s a bit ambiguous, where I got this:

https://tailwindcss.com/docs/v4-beta#using-legacy-configuration-files

It states not all configuration will be supported.

ideally I’d like to ditch the config file and use the native theme config.

yes, it is ambiguous, I'll keep an eye on the beta and see how things go
