I use Splashtop Business for remoting into my dev/gaming box from a thin client laptop. When I did an apt install cosmic-* it replaced gdm3 with cosmic-greeter. It's possible that this is just because autologin stopped working, but I was unable to connect to my remote machine with cosmic-greeter used instead of gdm3
