Unable to use form input for Dollar amount

Expected behavior

A clear and concise description of what you expected to happen.
When I follow the prompt or example to enter the dollar amount including the currency symbol, the total cost per occurrence should calculate.

Actual behavior

Include screenshots, or links and browser version if relevant
The total cost per occurrence fails to calculate when I enter the currency symbol in the cost per occurrence field.
