Talk proposal: Build in Accessibility from the start #34
Comments
👋 @SophieDonut, thank you for submitting a talk to our Berlin event 🌈 🤸♀ 🐻 Quick question, are you a first-time speaker or have you given talks before? |
I've given one talk with someone else before at a meetup a while back but this would be my first solo talk. |
Awesome, sounds good to me! We'd love to have you speak in Berlin. I'll add you to the website now 💻 🚀 |
It's live 🎉 https://queerjs.com/berlin |
awesome, thank you 😊 |
Hey @SophieDonut, not sure if someone has reached out to you yet. Unfortunately due to the current situation around COVID-19, we need to postpone the Berlin meetup until there's more certainty that we can run it safely. We've updated the website and I'm going to temporarily remove speakers from the page. However, once we have a new date - you'll be one of the first people we reach out to 😊 Thanks for understanding! |
Hey @carolstran haven't been told yet but already assumed that it wasn't gonna go forward / would've cancelled my appearance today if it was. Totally understand though! And it gives me more time to agonize over my slides 😅 . Stay safe 😁 |

Abstract
All too often A11Y is only an afterthought and will be added to a project "when we have time" i.e. never. But there are a ton of reasons why you should care about a11y from the start including some that will convince The Higher-Ups.
For that, we'll explore some general tools that help us develop with a11y in mind without adding (much) overhead and then focus on React Native and some of the quirks and limitations that it has.
