Talk title

Out of the closet- Building a virtual closet to recommend your next OOTD
(^Working title. Struggling to be creative right now 😅)

Abstract

Have you ever looked into your closet and thought I have nothing to wear, even though you definitely have clothes? Well, let's flashback to Clueless (the movie). If you ever have seen Clueless you likely remember Cher's amazing closet app that allows her to mix and match clothes she already owns with a touch screen. It's amazing that the film was made in 1995 and we still don't have something like this. So I built one 💁

In this talk, we will walk through the process of learning/working with Tensor Flow to build a similar app that will recommend ideas from clothes you own, but be based off things you pin to a clothing board on Pinterest. This app runs on a raspberry pi with a touch screen that you could use to swipe for inspiration on what to wear.

My inspiration for this was, of course, Cher's amazing closet and to eliminate the feeling of looking into a closet and being completely overwhelmed. As well as to hopefully help anyone transitioning to a new gender. I've heard horror stories from our community of being discriminated against in stores and having trouble finding new clothing styles. My hope is this app will make everyone feel beautiful and confident in themselves without spending a ton of money on new fashion or dealing with discrimination.

Your name (and pronouns)

Location

San Francisco (where I would like to speak) but based in Nashville, TN

I won't need travel assistance since my company, Webflow, is hosting and this could fall under a quarterly visit to our HQ in San Francisco.
