Release notes

v1.6.1

This patch allows to create additional queues for bulk indexing to prevent the creation of huge amounts of workers when full reindexing resources.

v1.6.0

⚠ Production instances need to migrate data, as this release modifies the data model of several resources:

• rero/rero-ils@dd83a91b (procedure to be found in the commit message).
• rero/rero-ils#2393 (procedure to be found in the PR description).
• rero/rero-ils@c4bdd9ef (procedure to be found in the commit message).

New options have been added to the CLI to allow to reindex a resource into another index, and the to switch from one index to the another. This prevents to interrupt the service during the reindexation process.

This release allow the user to sort the search result list alphabetically and by date (ascending and descending) for several type of records, on the public and professional interface. It also improves how the search handles queries with diacritics (#2396).

Notes can be added to the language field (#1867).

Two issues on the notification system are solved:

• The availability was wrongfully sent to the owning library instead of the pickup library (#2373).
• As overdue notifications are grouped, the reminder number in the e-mail subject can be misleading (#2390).

The anonymization of circulation transactions is modified to keep at least the last three months of operations, even if the patron doesn't keep the transaction history, in order to allow librarian to manage circulation (#2068).

The information displayed on the patron detailed view of the professional interface has been improved. In the patron brief view, the connexion to the circulation interface has been changed as a link instead of a button, thus allowing the librarian to open it in another window or tab.

The circulation history of the patron, as seen on the public and professional interface, displays correct data (#1227). Alongside, the total amount on the fee's tab of the public patron account is restored (#2319). The ILL requests are also correctly displayed (#1902).

Creating a template on the base of an existing record resulted in errors, due to the links to other records (#2385). From now, all the links inside templates are handled.

v1.5.1

This patch fixes several issues:

• Corrects the collection (seminar/courses) URL (#2337).
• Speeds the rendering of several professional interface pages (#2259).
• Restore the facets behaviour, without the limit to ten items.
• Fixes the computation of due date (#2198).
• Corrects the URL for Renouvaud catalogue on the frontpages used in production.

v1.5.0

This is the first release since the 🚀 go-live, as we published several patches (from v1.4.0 to v1.4.11). The main feature of this new version is the displaying of all the fields of the document, both on the public and professional interface. Patrons will finally see all the bibliographic metadata carefully filled in by librarians.

Alongside, some improvements and issue fixing take part of this version, such as:

• Clearing the input field of the circulation interface quicker, before the transaction is closed, thus allowing the librarian to go on (#2244).
• Removing default value of optional fields in the cataloguing editor, because in some case it forced the librarian to clean manually unused field (#2080 and #2310).
• Preventing the deletion of a document if it is a parent record of other documents (#2414).

v1.4.11

This patch improves the Angular application integration (ie the professional interface), which has an impact on the editor performance.

v1.4.10

This patch improves significantly the editors of RERO ILS, especially the document editor which loads much faster now (#1747). Linking document to other resource is easier too, as the scope of the search is wider (#2352) and the results more detailed.

v1.4.9

This patch brings several improvements and fixes on the notification process:

• Preventing to repeatedly send notifications that are in an error state.
• Preventing notifications to be in an error state if the pickup location is deleted.
• Cancelling generated notifications if the situation changed between the generation and the processing. Indeed, some notifications are asynchronous in order to be able to group several notifications of the same type to the same patron. But in the meantime, the notification may be outdated, because the loan has been renewed or checked in.
• Preventing to send reminders if the library is closed between the due date and the notification processing (#2303).
• Computing the date at which the due soon notification has to be sent when creating the loan, instead of through a recurring task, in order to improve performance and apply a more stable date.
• Processing due soon and overdue notifications as soon as possible, to prevent sending them after the loan is either renewed or checked in.

v1.4.8

This patch improves the mechanism of error login for the selfcheck machines and notifications process to improve the diagnostic of issues and its resolution. Other issues on notification are also resolved:

• Improvement of readability of the groupes notifications (#2247).
• Availability notification sent to the wrong recipient (#2300).
• The link to the patron account should redirect to a login page if the user is not authentified (#2282).
• The library name is displayed in the notifications instead of the pickup library name when the location is not a pickup location anymore, or not available.

Other issues are solved on the SRU queries and on the display of items on the document detailed view.

Finally, the support of loan listing, even if linked items or documents are deleted, is supported.

v1.4.7

This note includes the changes of the rero-ils-ui project [link]. It fixes various issues:

v1.4.6

This patch mainly fixes notification issues signaled on the production server:

• Some notifications aren't sent to the patron when he or she has no primary e-mail, but e-mail as the communication channel. This is often the case with children that have the parent e-mail in the additional e-mail address field (#2152).
• In the notifications that should be sent to the patron by mail, the address block was missing (#2188).
• In the booking notification, the patron information that were displayed were the ones of the patron that is checking in the item, instead of the patron that is requesting it (#2197).
• Request notifications on item that have a temporary circulation category with a negative availability should not be sent (#2191).

v1.4.5

This patch is a fix for the precedent one (v1.4.4, below), that broke the display of items on the document detailed view. In the same move, some improvements have been added to the document detailed view of the professional and public interface:

• Collapses the holdings by default, except when there's only one item in it (#2133).
• Loads at least 10 holdings, as they are now collapsed. Then loads holdings 10 by 10 (#2134).

v1.4.4

The main purpose of this patch is to improve overall performances by optimizing the facet computation, which consume lots of CPU resources as the production server of RERO ILS has lots of documents with lots of fields:

• Fixes the extra API request on the public search page (#1970), that alone improves the performance by 2.
• Prevents to compute facets on the search suggestion queries, as they aren't used at all.
• Computes only the expanded facet on the public search (document type) and computes the other facets only if the user expands it.
• Prevents to launch an empty search for lists such as users or documents in the professional interface, as the user will always type a specific query, thus spare CPU resources for bette use.

v1.4.3

This patch resolves several issues on notifications, spotted on the production server:

• Request notification is sent to the pickup location instead of the owning library; furthermore, when a recall notification has already been sent, no request should be sent (#2152).
• Sometimes booking notifications are not sent (also #2152).

The fourth case listed in the #2152 issue will be fixed in a future patch.

Some improvements have been done on the selfcheck machine module.

v1.4.2

This note includes the changes of the rero-ils-ui project [link] .

This patch occurs after the 🚀 go-live 🚀. It resolves the most urgent issues signaled by librarians.

It improves the interface for validating requests that is too slow with lots of requests, thus preventing librarian to fulfill them.

Several issues on notifications spotted on the production server are also fixed:

• The URL in the notification is wrong (#2151).
• The to pick up until date in the availability notification is not displayed (#2140).
• Due soon and recall notification e-mail has not object (#2139).

Deletion of an item type attributed to items is prevented (#2159).

v1.4.1

This note includes the changes of the rero-ils-ui project [link] .

This patch is necessary to fix three issues:

• Allows to create users without preset PID from the CLI, that is needed for the selfcheck machine users.
• Adapts the homepage of one of our partner.
• Prevents the document input search to remove the organisation filter (issue #2130).
• Restores the message in the trashbin tooltip that inform the user why an item cannot be deleted.

This release mainly fixes issues and adds enhancements to prepare the 🚀 go-live that is scheduled for the 12th of July 2021 🚀. A new feature allows a system administrator to fetch the usage statistics of a live instance 📊 . The comprehensive changes are available in the changelog.

• Makes document availability handling more fault tolerant when holdings have issues.
• Displays the temporary location on the item detailed view.

Search

• Adds ISBN text search.
• Removes data field from Elasticsearch mapping, as it contains a complete resources structure (possibly including some other resource reference). This isn’t required in the search index and cause some troubles with JSON reference resolution.

Circulation

• Fixes the can_extend check method. Sometimes, no loan parameter can be send to the can_extend method. In this case, the function skip all checks and return True. Now this function try to load the loan based on others function arguments to be more relevant.
• Ensures there’s only one default circulation policy per organisation.
• Allows to create circulation policies with different loan period for 2 different libraries.
• Ensures that closed or refused ILL requests do not appear on the patron account.
• Adds a CLI to manage selfcheck terminals.
• Implements circulation history on the item detailed view of the professional interface. Ensures the trigger actions are translated.
• Fixes the display of the circulation category in the different languages set in the circulation category record.

Notifications

• Fixes the display of the next opened day of the library in the German availability notice template.

Metadata

• Corrects two relatedTo that should be reproductionOf and hasReproduction in the document JSON schema.
• Moves part of the assigner title in the description and completes the description.
• Allows the u00ba unicode character (º) to be used in the bookFormat field.
• Displays the temporary_location on the document detailed views of public and professional interfaces, and on the item detailed view of the professional interface.
• Sets adminMetadata as a required field.

Data import

• Makes import from the BNF SRU service more stable.

Data export

• Fixes SRU XML format and type. Changes XML element <record> to <recordData>. Adds provisionActivity and copyrightDate to MARC21 264 tag transformation.

User management

• Adds email field to the authenticate service.
• Allows to save a user without e-mail. Avoids to check the uniqueness of the user e-mail when the user has no e-mail.
• Improves the patron CLI to allow to import users and to update the user and patron records.

Utilities, scheduled tasks

• Uses a JSON writer (JsonWriter) to write data into JSON files.
• Deletes old unused translate function from cli.
• Removes standard holdings that has no items. Following the recent changes to the item indexing, the feature to automatically delete standard holdings with no items is disabled. This commits puts back the removed logic as a cron job.

• Improves the method for record updating.
• Avoids multiple validations when a record is created.
• Adds a new commit parameter to the update, replace methods in ILSRecord.

• Ensures that the issue.status_date field is updated when an issue is created or updated.
• Adds a new temporary_location, associated to no logic yet. It allows to link all serial items of the same journal to the same holdings even if some items are in another location as the other one, as it is quite often the case. The new field is a JSON reference to a location and has an end_date.
• Fixes creation of late issue.

User management

• Adds a code field in the patron JSON schema to store a code from the legacy system and to keep the OAuth server working as it is.
• Makes the local_code an array.
• Relaxes the minLength constrain on the user firstname or lastname to 1 instead of 2, to allow to import or create user with very short names.
• Translate the validation message of the username field of the user record. This validation message comes from rero/invenio-userprofiles.
• Allows external services (such as public computers in a library) to authenticate users through RERO ILS. Creates a new API entrypoint which returns user data according the username and password.
• Implements OAuth server to allow RERO ILS patrons to be identified by external services providers:
  • Configures scopes.
  • Adds a REST endpoint to retrieve patron information.

Export

• Improves the perfomance of the CSV Inventory list export:
  • Uses ciso8601 to parse date.
  • Adds new API endpoint.
  • Uses streaming feature to process the CSV file download.
  • Reduces Elasticsearch calls through bunch request.
  • Adds fields to the generated CSV file.

Permissions

• Improves permission computation for record deletion. IlsRecord.can_delete returns a tuple with True or False and reasons on why the record cannot be deleted if False.
• Denies to all to read one operation log record.

Activity logging

• Reimplements the operation logs as an Elasticsearch resource only, because avoiding to save this many records in the DB improves performance.
• Creates an Elasticsearch record class for operation logs that creates one index per year.
• Adds a CLI to dump operation logs in a JSON file for backup purpose.
• Records loan activities. Converts patron birthdate into age. Adds local codes to patron.
• Anonymizes loan operation log for loans that are anonymized.

Monitoring

• Improves the monitor view to compute Elasticsearch and DB count diff when the index does not exists.

Performance

• Improves indexing preformance:
  • Removes the enriched metadata releated to the items of a collection in the document index at indexing process as it comes with a too high performance cost in regard to the need of the feature.
  • Removes the enriched local fields indexation in item and holdings indexes, for the same reason.
  • Removes the availability key that was updated during document, holdings and item resource indexation.
  • Replaces index flushing by the Elasticsearch parameter refresh='true'.
  • Changes the item circulation status directly in the document index instead of reindexing the complete document (with holdings and items data) index at each circulation operation.
  • Updates the masked value of the holdings only if the _masked field is updated.
  • Improves the items / holdings / documents chain indexation.
  • Reindexes the corresponding acquisition order as an acquisition order line is indexed. Adds an Invenio records extension to update the total acquisition order amount before indexing. Removes the total acquisition order amount from the JSON schema and from the DB.

• Adapt the template fixtures to the complete document JSON schema.

• Extends the labeler github-actions to improve automatic labeling of PRs.

Metadata

• Adds a translation mechanism for the resource editor (documents, items…). The translated schemas keys in the rero-ils project are served through an API endpoint to the rero-ils-ui project, in order to avoid translating them twice.
• Holding record, serial pattern:
  • Adds a field to describe the publication frequency of a serial pattern. The librarian has to pick from a fixed list of 15 frequencies, which correspond to the standard RDA list.
  • Adds an expected_date_for_first_issue field to indicate the expected date of the first issue to be received.

  • Allows the librarian to receive new issues through the holdings detailed view. The system, based on the holdings pattern, computes the next issue pattern and expected date. The librarian is able to add irregular or exceptional issues.
  • Updates automatically the next_expected_date after a successful receipt of a regular issue (expected_date of the receipt issue plus the pattern frequency).

• Corrects the process used when starting a delayed bulk indexing (switch from invenio-indexer to IlsRecordindexer).

User interface

• Improves the document detailed views (public and professional) with tabs: a “get” tab with the holdings and information on items, a “description” tab with extended document metadata and, in the professional view, an “online” tab when the resource is available through an hyperlink. On top of these tabs are displayed the main metadata of the document with the cover thumbnail.

Public interface

• Removes the item detailed public view which is useless, all relevant information being on the public document detailed view.

Professional interface

• Updates the library custom editor to normalize buttons according to the charter. Also, when a day is set to closed, the opening hours are hidden in addition to being disabled.

Search

• Moves from the ES query string, which is powerful but should not be used for public search input, to ES simple query, much simpler but much more resilient to syntax errors in the query. It also allowed to set the default boolean operator to AND, which is what librarians and patrons expect. The API requests are still done through the ES query string, as complex queries are needed to populate the user interface. A new HTTP query optional parameter is added to identify the simple query: &simple=1.
• Sets the same AND boolean operator instead of OR when selecting multiple items in the same facet, thus reducing the scope of the filter instead of expanding it.
• Improves the ES mapping to enhance the search quality.
• Adds a RERO ILS custom analyzer as the default analyzer.
• Improves language analyzer with unicode capabilities (oe, œ, ue, ü, etc.). Uses a new ES docker image with icu plugins for these functionalities.

Circulation

• Checks that there is only one pickup location per library.
• Processes notifications asynchronously, which is more scalable and reliable.
• Implements paging request to closed stack functionality, needed and developed by UCLouvain. It allows to restrict, for a specific location, the available pickup locations, or even to disable the request option for the whole location. It also allows to set a manager for these paging requests, who receives printable email notifications for each request.
  • Updates the location detailed view with new paging request fields.
  • Updates the location brief view to identify the closed stacks. Adds tooltip message when the location can’t be deleted. Updates the buttons style according to the charter.
