The toolbar icons for New, Open, Save, and Print are all identical:
(I can believe this might be some problem with my installation. At one point I had two versions of ReText installed, one at system level and one at user level. Maybe that caused some problems?)

I tried Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon and ReText from distribution repository, and also Linux Mint 21.2 MATE and ReText installed with pip. In both cases, the icons are displayed correctly.
Which DE you are using and how you installed this version of ReText?
Also, what is your icon theme (gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme)? What happens if you explicitly set icon theme to Mint-Y-Sand in ReText settings?
