Hello Richard.
Thank you for providing these valuable and concise examples.

As CircuitPython9 has started shuffling around the displayio code
you might adapt your examples to use the fourwire module.

DIFF:
+import fourwire
from adafruit_st7735r import ST7735R

-display_bus = displayio.FourWire(
+display_bus = fourwire.FourWire(
spi, command=tft_dc, chip_select=tft_cs, reset=tft_rst
)
