I'd love to be able to quickly filter out candidates by seeing that they've not had a release in years. Adding "Last Released YYYY-MM-DD" (or relative) next to the download count would really help.

As an example:

https://rubygems.org/search?query=opengl

first 5 hits: 6 years, 1 month, 10 years, 11 years, 6 years

makes it kinda obvious, no?

I agree. In fact, I actually wanted to suggest almost the same just now.

I just did a video search today, that is, for gems that deal with video-related stuff,
as I also maintain one gem that deals with audio and video data.

I did this:

https://rubygems.org/search?query=video

Unfortunately many of these results have had their last release +11 years ago, so
in other words, they are most likely abandoned. I'd love to view the more
recent ones only, or at the least have it sorted that way as an option.

It would be nice to add this to the API search results as well so that it'd be possible to sort results based on the last release date.
