This is the MyDatabase class.

dart-tool keeps throwing this error.

The instance member '_openConnection' can't be accessed in an initializer. Try replacing the reference to the instance member with a different expression

This class worked until a recent the later build_runner run. What is causing this?

It should work if you move _openConnection out of the class, or declare it as static.
