set_locale in jformat template tag

I wanna work on jformat template tag.
I wanna use jdatetime.set_locale based on LANGUAGE_CODE and USE_I18N.

What I want to know what should I do when LANGUAGE_CODE is something except fa-IR or en-US? for example what if it was ar-IQ?

or I can do if LANGUAGE_CODE was fa-IR or fa then jdatetime.set_locale("fa_IR") otherwise do nothing. because I have tried in jdatetime if locale is anything except fa_IR then it prints with english alphabet.
