question about __date filter look up

__date filter lookup in Django:

For datetime fields, casts the value as date. Allows chaining additional field lookups. Takes a date value.

As it says, it only takes date value.
But in django-jalali we accept jdatetime.datetime, jdatetime.date and str values then we convert them to jdatetime.date.
Shouldn't we only take jdatetime.date value?

Then our API looks like Django API and our code base is simpler and easier to understand.
What do you think?

Are you sure that the __date just accepts datetime.date? I think it accepts strings line YYYY-MM-DD.

Have you tested the __date filter with string value?

I haven't tested it, but in Django docs says it takes date value. I'll test it and let you know.

Yes, you were right. It takes other values as well.
But that's weird, docs say something else.

They don't mention datatime.date. maybe the date value in doc means all the possible values for a date. like str ...
