once L2 or R2 are pressed the value stays

Hi
we are currently trying to set up the ps4 controller for our system. One weird thing is that once the buttons L2 and R2 are pressed once, their value goes to 1, and never back to 0. So when we press them again, the value then goes to -1 and at release back to 1. This seems very weird. Is it supposed to be this way? If so, for what reason?
