This advice would great if it worked but there are two major problems:
The instructions for Notepad++ assume that language binding for Stata in the userDefineLangs folder won't overwrite an existing xml file. However, in all current installations that directory exists with xml files that are much more recent than your version. I will certainly not allow it to overwrite the existing file. Notepad++ doesn't have any native binding for Stata do files.
While the instructions for VSC don't cause that problem, Huebler's rundo.exe program doesn't seem to work. In my tests it causes a new instance of Stata to start, run profile.do and then hangs. It seems that it doesn't execute Stata properly in batch mode. I have have tested this on both Stata 17 & Stata 18.5 with identical results.
