Much like many other thematic renderings, being able to login using one's own OSM account (via Oauth, rather than requiring password), in order that submitted (wheelchair:*) changes be made via that user's account, instead of wheelmap_visitor.
Describe alternatives you've considered
regular editors (StreetComplete, Vespucci) authenticated with one's own account. However, this significantly increases the barrier-to-entry for those interested in accessibility but not (necessarily) mapping (for its own sake).

Thanks for raising this issue! I can’t promise when / if we implement this, but if, it would be optional. I‘d love to have this feature again as it would encourage power users to map accessibility. I hope in the meantime it’s possible to implement it with better UX than the last existing version of it :)
Status update: This feature is definitely going to be part of a new version. It might start behind a feature flag (e.g. a URL parameter) at first, but will make it into Wheelmap again. We're going to experiment with this in the https://github.com/sozialhelden/wheelmap-frontend/tree/feature/osm-sync branch.
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
