To prevent issues with accidentally using the wrong database, there should be some visual difference between testing and production databases. Since the testing databases have geo features and are significantly different, it isn't impossible that someone would mix up the two after being on the testing database for awhile.
Describe the solution you'd like
A temporary solution would be to add another global preferences, i.e. changing the logo of Specify in the sidebar or some other preference that isn't commonly used by KU users so that the global default is across all accounts. This is most likely the easiest solution, as admin users can add global preferences for all other users.
Below is an example. There should also be an indication when the sidebar is collapsed.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Changing the favicon of the tab (though this wouldn't be the best on its own) or having another indicator, i.e. an announcement bar at the top or some kind of text in the bottom right to indicate they're on a testing database. These solutions would make it even clearer.
