I'm not sure if it's already in the plans, or if it has already been suggested, but using GitHub Releases feature would, IMO, help keep things organized and easier to keep track of. It would, for example, allow users to receive notifications when a new version is released, because GitHub has the feature to watch releases only, instead of every single change to the repo.
This would be similar to how Courseplay does it.
