The real romance is out ahead and yet to come. The computer revolution hasn’t started yet. Don’t be misled by the enormous flow of money into bad de-facto standards for unsophisticated buyers using poor adaptations of incomplete ideas – Alan Kay
TL;DR
I am a scientist and software engineer (and professional firefighter) working on supporting people in fulfilling on what matters to them, especially using technology.
The computer revolution hasn’t happened yet…
But we're working on it! I am deeply committed to enriching the human experience by empowering people to harness knowledge, manage complexity, and fully express themselves. I envision a world where computers and users dance in a feedback loop providing access to new worlds of effectiveness, by integrating Doug Engelbart’s idea of computers calling users to be greater than they are with the current “ease of use” mantra.
I’ve sensed from my earliest college days of C and C++ that “this can’t be all there is!” And ten years later, when I stumbled onto Alan Kay’s Dynabook vision, and all of Doug Engelbart’s works, I feel like I’ve come home.
I am an active contributor to Pharo (and Squeak) Smalltalk, dreaming of a world without operating systems, lol, where I never have to leave my image. To that end, I set up and funded a research lab investigating the future of computing…
