Viewer shows value of 0 intermittently for accounts with balance n

As a user who visits the /viewer, I'd like to see a consistent and accurate value for balance. Currently, the value displayed for my balance flaps between 0 and n. This is presumed to be an issue with web sockets. Please improve error messaging to help users understand when connection errors cause the balance to flap.
