Stuck on old version...

Hi! I'm stuck at 1.0.3. I tried a few updates, 1.0 and 1.1 just today. Even if I remove the old app and settings in my ~/Library to get a clean slate, it crashes on start. This all started about a week ago, all was fine previously and I launched the update from the menu. I don't really need the updates as this old version fits most of my needs, though I can't get mail links to work (perhaps fixed in later versions?). Anyway, I spent about an hour on this today, rolling back via Time Machine and pulling hair a bit ;-) But I'm a software dev myself, so I'd like to resolve this. Please send suggestions / ideas / debug help.

OSX: v10.8.5 (I tried El Capitan recently and quickly rolled back, eww!)
