Hi, How did the project go? Did you try making it decentral? I really liked the idea and I think making open source mobile and desktop/server software for this and transitioning to a decentral blockchain-based solution would boost its popularity and may get some real attention. And makes it a worldwide project.
Desktop/Server software as a full node needs to be able to have access to an SMS sending API with receiving functionality with a static number. It maintains the chain and generates new blocks.
Communication between full nodes could be either on the internet or SMS, different Proof consensuses could be used to make this a reality, it's the most debatable topic.
Mobile app as a wallet (storing the private key) used to generate the SMS with a signature to a discovered full node.

Thank you @unicornist . Sadly this is not alive anymore. But crypto should go mobile is such an obvious idea. I'm baffled that still nothing good came out over the years.
I think this idea has a significant influence on increasing worldwide awareness and adoption of cryptocurrencies and their usages. It'd be awesome if we can resolve its fundamental issues, and make that happen. I'd like to keep in touch if you're interested.
