Bug Description:
When I installed Surge XT on my computer, no presets were loaded onto my hard drive - the corresponding folders are completely empty. When I open Ableton Live 12 Light and go to Surge XT under 'Plugins' - I chose a custom "Plugins" path in the Ableton Plugin settings and copied the Surge XT & Effect files from their original download folder to my custom folder - the plugin's user interface works fine, but when I right-click in the ‘Head’ under Patch Browser, no presets or patches are displayed. I only see the different options under the ‘Functions’ tab, the rest is empty and without content. What is the reason for this?

Surge XT Version

  • Version: Surge XT 1.3.4
  • Plugin Type: VST3
  • Bitness: 64-bit

Computer Information:

  • OS: Windows 11
  • Host: Ableton Live 12 Light

How did you install surge? What does the about screen say in your instance?

I downloaded it regularly from the official website: https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/

I probably just found the preset folder using the "About" page and dragged it into my plugin folder, but how can I access it in Surge XT now, because it's still not displayed. Can I change the storage path for the presets folder in the plugin somewhere? Unfortunately I'm not familiar with it.

so when you start in live the about screen shows a plugin folder which contains presets and surge doesn't find them?

That is almost definitely a corrupted hard link. Next to your install of surge look for a folder called "SurgeXTData" and delete it perhaps?
