Cannot get NordVPN working with this method

I am new to Linux. I say this so you can hopefully respond with the right level of detail.
I have spent 3 days trying to get NordVPN running on a Qubes proxy VM without any success.
I have configured 3 proxy qubes from scratch to try and make sure it’s not me.
Sys-net > proxyVM > appVM and also
Sys-firewall > proxyVM> appVM

vpn never starts in proxy

I initially installed the NordVPN app in the template for the proxyVM. Not sure if this is causing the problem. If I start the vpn using the app it works fine in the proxy but of course does not get passed to the appVM.

Journalctl contains no Logs for the past 6 days.

Systemctl shows that Process 1681 exited with a status=1 failure

I can’t get the last 3 days of my life back but if you could help my sanity might return. Thanks
