They look good on Ubuntu, but have a white background (and thus are unreadable) on Raspbian

I had the same problem but unrelated to rasbian. the solution is actually to adjust the settings in qt5ct
Simply run qt5ct from terminal and configure the settings as shown in the screenshot, and it will fix the weird white box with white text issue in mixxx
