Preface
In 2024, TODO Group China Chapter left a profound mark on the "Open Source Journey". From the cherry blossoms in Nanjing to the intense debates in Shanghai and the significant events in Shenzhen, OSPOers engaged in in-depth exchanges and collaborations across regions and cultures with open source at the core. This was not just a series of discussions and events, but also vivid practices of the open source spirit.
This year, we witnessed in-depth discussions on open source in different fields. From the opposing perspectives of litigation and public welfare, to the exploration of talent cultivation paths, and to how economic analysis empowers open source decision-making. Each collision of ideas strengthened our belief in the power of open source and brought new inspirations to every participant in the community. Meanwhile, as an important bridge connecting the global and Asia-Pacific open source ecosystems, TODO Group China Chapter continued to promote the popularization and deepening of open source culture. From offline activities to online sharing, from community cooperation to industry discussions, every action of group reflected the firm implementation of the open source concept and laid a solid foundation for the future construction of the open source ecosystem.
As 2024, the Year of the Dragon, is coming to an end, let's open this report to review the achievements and shortcomings of this year and jointly plan the new open source journey in 2025, the Year of the Snake. In the future, TODO Group China Chapter will continue to uphold the spirit of "Open Source Journey" to gather more open source enthusiasts and work together to promote the prosperity and development of the Chinese open source ecosystem!
Open Source Journey
Nanjing 2024
The first activity in 2024 was held in Nanjing when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The long-awaited OSPOers got together, and most of the time was spent on catching up, more like a gathering of old friends rather than a discussion about OSPO knowledge.
Shanghai 2024
Dentons Law Firm
Welcome OSPOers to Dentons
We were triggered by the question of whether open source should initiate litigation. One side argued that without litigation, open source infringement could not be stopped. The other side believed that the purpose of open source is to bring more benefits and move forward. Since neither side could persuade the other, we agreed to conduct an economic analysis next time and abandon the discussions about justice and morality, trying to focus on cost calculation instead.
Shenzhen 2024
For enterprises, embracing open source is a challenging task and an art. During the visit to Vivo, we not only learned about Vivo's open source strategy but also gained insights from the sharing of OSPOers from Huawei, ZTE, etc. Most importantly, we all learned a lot through communication.
