Prerequisites

  • I verified that this is not a filter list issue. Report any issues with filter lists or broken website functionality in the uAssets issue tracker.
  • This is NOT a YouTube, Facebook or Twitch report. These sites MUST be reported by clicking their respective links.
  • This is not a support issue or a question. For support, questions, or help, visit /r/uBlockOrigin.
  • I performed a cursory search of the issue tracker to avoid opening a duplicate issue.
  • The issue is not present after disabling uBO in the browser.
  • I checked the documentation to understand that the issue I am reporting is not normal behavior.

I tried to reproduce the issue when...

  • uBO is the only extension.
  • uBO uses default lists and settings.
  • using a new, unmodified browser profile.

Description

Firefox Add-on causes freezing problems when Youtube is open due to heavy CPU consumption (90%) and memory usage.
I tried Firefox Browser and other open source browsers derived from Firefox (zen, floorp) and had the same problem.
I also verified from “about:processes” that the problem is caused by the ublock origin plugin.
The problem is not related to normal RAM consumption. The problem is that the plugin is constantly writing data to RAM memory. It falls into a repetition and runs a continuous process. That's why data is constantly accumulating. RAM memory fills up. The browser freezes. Sometimes the OS freezes.
Also the processor is constantly running, the processor fan starts to run at full speed, the sound of the processor fan becomes extremely annoying, the processor starts to run at full capacity. I think it's doing the same thing all the time and not getting any results.
I think this is a move by google to make the plugin useless.
Another problem is that when I refresh the Youtube video tab, the page also freezes, it doesn't open. It turns into a tab that is ineffective and not working. It doesn't react when you refresh the tab. I can open other tabs, but this tab becomes useless.
When I select the URL and press Enter and ask it to reload the URL, it doesn't react either.

A specific URL where the issue occurs.

https://www.youtube.com/

Steps to Reproduce

  1. open firefox
  2. open the youtube website.
  3. open multiple videos in a new tab.

Expected behavior

Please prevent it from constantly writing data to RAM memory so that RAM does not swell.
Stop unnecessary processor consumption, block unnecessary processes.
Prevent tab freezing.

Actual behavior

Please prevent it from constantly writing data to RAM memory so that RAM does not swell.
Stop unnecessary processor consumption, block unnecessary processes.
Prevent tab freezing.

Hopefully this issue is resolved as soon as possible. This is causing my CPU to overheat occasionally while watching Youtube, crashing my entire PC.

Can you try latest Nightly builds? Some related bugs were fixed - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1935456#c73 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1931717 [meta issue])

Stop unnecessary processor consumption, block unnecessary processes.
Prevent tab freezing.

I doubt uBO can do anything with this. This should be handled and fixed by Firefox / YouTube. Many encounter the same issue without uBO: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1935456#c61
