Thoughts on an events section? Currently the best medium is overhearing about an event or seeing it on facebook? Some events might not reach a certain niche. Maybe can add start and end time to expire the event listing after some time.

That would be interesting. There's a history to this- UChicago Events was an SLI project/RSO that tried to do this, focusing on a mobile app; events.uchicago.edu focuses on shared events; and Facebook tends to share events ad-hoc.
The tricky part is finding a niche. Marketplace's audience is not just undergrads (there's also various levels of staff, grad students, and visitors), and we need to make sure we're serving all of these communities. I see events as being very useful for undergrads, but I'm not sure I understand what grad students want.
I think another issue could be that people make events on many platforms: facebook, eventbrite, uchicago website, etc, and it would be hard to convince them to switch to our platform. A hook into facebook may work better so that marketplace acts as an aggregator, but tuning the parameters so that the correct information is parsed from other sources may also be difficult.
