(Low Priority)
Issue Summary
Generate fits file sets using Skymaker that have various possible sky artifacts. Want to see if we can simulate and subtract to find different transient objects than a transient star. Want to look into differences between different objects. We will start by simulating 10 sets each, with 1000 images per set. (May change later)

Image parameters
(Subject to Change in future sets)

  • Image Size : 416x416
  • Exposure Time: 10 sec
  • Background File: sky_sparse.conf
  • Saturation Level: 89600

Artifacts to be Simulated

  • 15 Magnitude Asteroid (same background)
  • 15 Magnitude Asteroid (differing background)
  • Low Earth Orbit Satellites
  • Other Satellites
  • Planes

Possible Helpful Papers

  • Optical-to-NIR magnitude measurements of the Starlink LEO Darksat satellite and effectiveness of the darkening treatment (Reed)
  • Improved Asteroid Astrometry and Photometry with Trail Fitting (Vereš)
  • Mitigation of LEO Satellite Brightness and Trail Effects on the Rubin Observatory LSST (Tyson)

Additional Note
Some of these artifacts may not be reasonable to simulate (ie. too many variables involved to generate a realistic simulation). We may have to use real images for these artifacts.

After skimming papers mentioned above it seems that simulating realistic satellites will be extremely difficult (none of the papers mention the frequency that a satellite flashes at due to reflection from the sun). Will read in more detail to make sure I haven't missed anything.

Reed paper mentions a publicly available dataset from ESO that could potentially be used (at the very least to get an idea of how to simulate similar sources).
