Recently i found a cool lightweight "alternative" to this program called lazymc, and there in the screenshots i noticed a cool feature to show a MOTD while the server is starting:
I didn't wanted to switch from this program to lazymc because lazymc hasn't been updated recently, and it may be very unstable, so i guess it would be easier to just make a feature request to this project.

I can vouch for lazymc, it also allows you to freeze the process instead of stopping it (allowing server startup to be instant). IMO, you shouldn't really judge projects based solely on if they've been updated recently or not, because it could also mean that the project is mostly complete (no new features are needed, so they're not making any new releases).
I agree with @f1refa11, lazymc would be cool but due to its issues with newer protocolversions (wich makes it kinda worthless for new minecraft versions) and creator inactivity i rather use mcsleepingserverstarter and would also like to see this feature here too Sometimes people ask me if the mc server is broken because it "goes down" when they join
