As projects get bigger and more people start collaborating, it gets harder to maintain them and implement new functionalities. By defining a standard way to write Typescript applications, we can not only automate the formatting and static analysis steps, but also speed up the whole workflow by reducing the time a developer needs to focus on other tasks. A developer's job should be to focus on solving their problem in hand, not to fix the indentation level or inserting a line break.
This style guide aims to make every Typescript related code written by any VTEX developer seems to have been written by a single person. With this in mind, feature implementations, mantainances and even reviews can be sped up, as everyone will be looking to code similar to theirs, while keeping a essential minimal code quality.
This style guide doesn't include formatting rules since it's expected that prettier is configured to use the @vtex/prettier-config

You may optionally uppercase a constant only if it (1) is a const
(it can not be reassigned), and (2) the programmer can trust it (and its nested properties) to never change.
Why? This is an additional tool to assist in situations where the programmer would be unsure if a variable might ever change. UPPERCASE_VARIABLES are letting the programmer know that they can trust the variable (and its properties) not to change.
- What about all
const
variables? - This is unnecessary, so uppercasing should not be used for constants within a file. It should be used for exported constants however. - What about exported objects? - Uppercase at the top level of export (e.g.

- Be cautious about stubs and mocks - they can make your tests more brittle.
