MacBook M3 MAX with Samsung G9 5120x1440@240Hz 49"

Hello everyone,

I have a question about using BetterDisplay with a Samsung G9 49" Ultra-Monitor. Is it possible to achieve a refresh rate of 5120x1440@240Hz or at least 120Hz with this setup? The MacBook is limited to a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz on USB-C/Thunderbolt/DP ports. Unfortunately, the monitor can only handle a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz on HDMI, while on DisplayPort, it can go up to 240Hz.

I have the same monitor and MacBook Pro M3 Max, running at 240Hz using display port. The non-pro M3 is limited.

Hey @Erik262 I have the M3 Pro Max with the Samsung G9 57in model. I am to run it at 5120x1440 @ 240hz over HDMI. I also have a Samsung G9 49in running at 5120x1440px @ 120hz over displayport via usb c

Btw, my screenshot doesnt show the 240hz for 57in since I swapped back to 120hz cuz i like a larger resolution

I also have a G9 and I am able to run it at 5120x1440 @ 240Hz on a M2 Max using a USB-C to Displayport cable:

One important thing to note is that I first had to connect the monitor, then make sure to set the refresh rate in the monitor settings to be 240Hz!! Should be under Settings > Game > Refresh Rate. Since I was already using it as a 240Hz on a Windows PC using a 4090, I wasn't even thinking about having to also setting this again when using a different Displayport port. Also, to fix blurry text that might also is a common issue when using this monitor as an external display with Macbooks (at least it was for me) make sure to set Settings > Picture > Picture Mode to sRGB. I was searching for a fix for this for a while... because text in VS Code would just look absolutely horrible.
