For adding to potential task list and sharing at Marketing meetings, requested info from Erica on polyglots/ WPTD to:

  • better understand what additional support may be needed from the marketing team during the event itself (in addition to those joining the organizers)
  • if any additional recruitment needs to be shared via the marketing team meetings
  • checking how Marketing Team members expressing an interest can get involved in WPTD. Do all polyglot and marketing team members need to get involved via the translation day slack rather than through the make team meetings? If so, should we be directing people to join the translation slack if they want to see and share thoughts on the marcomms related conversations?
  • requested update from WPTD if relevant to marketing team meeting on 18 or 25 August

From the P2 (WPTD P2):
One part of the Translation Day proposal for 2021 is hosting global events – in English – from September 17 to 30, 2021.

Global Events

Based on outreach and notes in the spreadsheet, these are some of the confirmed events where our help is needed:

Panel on Open Source Translations (Streaming)
Date: Tuesday, September 21 at 11 UTC
A facilitated panel on volunteer-led translations and/or open source communities. The goal of the panel is to have contributors share how translations work in their communities, share their experiences and journeys, and their tips on translation community building.
Draft questions for panelists.
Help needed: Promotion/marketing, streaming coordinator to run StreamYard/YouTube.

Panel on Polyglots Tools (Streaming)
Date: TBD
A panel/discussion for Polyglots who’ve worked on or created extensions to help both translators and editors contribute to translating WordPress. They can opt to share a very short demo of their tool, as well as how it helps their workflow personally. We can open it up to other questions or tips on best practices.
Help needed: Emcee (someone to guide the discussion), promotion/marketing, streaming coordinator to run StreamYard/YouTube.

Timeline

With global events planned between Sept. 17 and 30, the team should:

  • Share the schedule and content with Marketing to help plan any social media promotions by the first week of September, as well (if not before).
