Event Types mentions the creation of event types.

How do I extend an existing event type? Teams tend to delete & re-create event types for this purpose atm. What are the implications? What's the target situation?

Though the manual mentions compatibility modes now, an example how to update an event type in backward/forward compatible way, would be great.

The existing event type creation example does not say anything about versions yet.
