Windows ARM64 Support for TapDriver6 (including Signed Driver) #1949
Conversation
Thank you. We're in the process of getting some more hardware that should let us validate this. We'll give an update once we've been able to test it. |
Just checking back to see if you have had any luck testing this? |
@jakevis, thank you for your work on this. I didn't quite understand if you've built only the driver for ARM64 and used the official x64 versions of everything else under emulation or did you build all the components for ARM64? If you've built everything, would you mind uploading the ARM64 versions of everything else? It would make it easier to try out that having to build everything for myself and just using your signed driver. |
@joseph-henry, as I said in a previous PR: If you don't have enough devices or don't have enough different devices to try this one I might be able to help. I have access to several ARM64 Windows devices on which I would be able to run and test whatever you like, including some less common devices (i.e. not Surface Pro X/9). I have a Samsung Galaxy Book Go that nice for testing resource-constrained scenarios as it's the version with SD 7c and 8GB RAM. I could also provide you with remote access to Hyper-V on a Volterra device to run VMs on. I'm currently using the Samsung but I can dedicate it to testing for you, if you need to switch it to test signing mode in case you have kernel-mode tests or something like that is never production-signed. (The VMs can obviously be in testsigning.) I can probably also find one of the old ARM64 devkits (the ECS LIVA QC710) to test on it too. If any of this can help you, please let me know. |
Hi there - sorry for the delay; no - I didn't build everything. As I mentioned, windows has quite good x86 and amd64 emulation. So I am running with the standard UI package. We just need a new driver installer MSI for arm64; and for the default installer to not block on amd65 (instead install the x86 or amd64 bit version, with the arm driver) |
Great job. Thank you everyone and @chenxijun for the original PR. |

And then all networking on the computer is broken. to summarize the new way: allowDefault=1 ``` sudo route delete default 192.168.82.1 sudo route add default 10.2.0.2 sudo route add -ifscope en1 default 192.168.82.1 ``` gives us this routing table ``` Destination Gateway RT_IFA Flags Refs Use Mtu Netif Expire rtt(ms) rttvar(ms) default 10.2.0.2 10.2.0.18 UGScg 90 1 2800 feth4823 default 192.168.82.1 192.168.82.217 UGScIg ``` allowDefault=0 ``` sudo route delete default sudo route delete -ifscope en1 default sudo route add default 192.168.82.1 ``` Notice the I flag, for -ifscope, on the physical default route. route change does not seem to work reliably. * fix docker tag for controllers (#2066) * Update build.sh (#2068) fix mkwork compilation errors * Fix network DNS on macOS It stopped working for ipv4 only networks in Monterey. See #1696 We add some config like so to System Configuration ``` scutil show State:/Network/Service/9bee8941b5xxxxxx/IPv4 <dictionary> { Addresses : <array> { 0 : 10.2.1.36 } InterfaceName : feth4823 Router : 10.2.1.36 ServerAddress : 127.0.0.1 } ``` * Add search domain to macos dns configuration Stumbled upon this while debugging something else. If we add search domain to our system configuration for network DNS, then search domains work: ``` ping server1 ~ PING server1.my.domain (10.123.3.1): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 10.123.3.1 ``` * Fix reporting of secondaryPort and tertiaryPort See: #2039 * Fix typos (#2075) * Disable executable stacks on assembly objects (#2071) Add `--noexecstack` to the assembler flags so the resulting binary will link with a non-executable stack. Fixes #1179 Co-authored-by: Joseph Henry <[email protected]> * Test that starting zerotier before internet works * Don't skip hellos when there are no paths available working on #2082 * Update validate-1m-linux.sh * Save zt node log files on abort * Separate test and summary step in validator script * Don't apply default route until zerotier is "online" I was running into issues with restarting the zerotier service while "full tunnel" mode is enabled. When zerotier first boots, it gets network state from the cache on disk. So it immediately applies all the routes it knew about before it shutdown. The network config may have change in this time. If it has, then your default route is via a route you are blocked from talking on. So you can't get the current network config, so your internet does not work. Hi there-
Following up from the work over at #1837 by @chenxijun - and this also at least in part solves:
#1147
#1141
#1098
Unlike chenxijun I did not go and modify anything other than the driver files. At least in my testing the service and UI both function fine on Windows 10 and 11, on ARM using the inbuilt and default emulation. Although it would be great if the MSI installer didn't block install on ARM (copy the files, and run
ZeroTier/One/zerotier-one_arm64.exe -I
as an admin)After build (and driver signing) - I copied the 3 files to
C:\ProgramData\Zerotier\One\tap-windows\arm64
and then manully installed the driver (right click, install on the inf file).I did go and get the driver signed by Microsoft for arm (all windows 10/11 versions), since I understand that this can be hard to do - and I had the approvals, keys and methods at hand. You are free to incorporate these as if you wish. Here are the signed files: zttap300.zip
But... that said - I now have a working ZeroTier install on my Surface Pro 9 without going into any test modes:
I hope VERY VERY much that you can integrate this into your released installers soon
