PKEasy Usage

Introduction

The PKEasy Programmer application allows you to program all supported devices listed [here].   The programming interface appears as shown below.   Its controls are listed in the following sections.  For more information on how to install and use the PKEasy application, see PKEasy Getting Started.

Menu Bar

The menu bar selects various functions of PKEasy application.   A summary of the functions are:

  • Settings  - Select to enable Microchip Express boards and set the event sounds
  • About      - Show the About screen.
  • Exit          - Exit the PKEasy application.

The menu bar is extended with icons. These are icons are shown below:

A summary of icons are:

  • Country Flag   -Select locale language
  • Voltage             -Control voltage state and voltage level
  • Power On         -Control voltage On
  • Power Off         -Control voltage Off
  • Sound On/OFf Toggle      -Control sound On/Off
  • Always On Top Toggle    -Control PKEasy is on top all the time

Essential use of PKEasy

Using PKEasy is very simple. The following graphic shows the key seven step process.

  1. Select a programmer to use.  This could be a PICkit2, PICkit3 or a Microchip Programmer-on-boards
  2. Select a source HEX file
  3. Select a target part/microcontroller PIC
    3a. You can select manually
    3b. You can select from your recently used part/microcontroller PIC.
  4. You can use the 'Magic Wand'.  This will auto-detect the part/microcontroller PIC.   Some families which cannot be auto-detected (such as Baseline) and you will have to select manually.
  5. Select whether you need to power from your selected programmer, or, not.
  6. Write to the part/microcontroller PIC.
  7. A completed write operation.
