Open City is a collaboration between the Oorvani Foundation, a non profit initiative focused on hyper-local issues in urban areas, and DataMeet, a community of data science and open data enthusiasts.
All the data put up on the OpenCity platform is in Open Data format and free to download. The data is licensed under ODbL and Creative Commons Share Alike.
How liveable is your neighbourhood? Given various parameters and indicators, such as
- Access/convenience to public transport, public transport network
- Traffic jams in neighbourhood
- Density of neighbourhood
- Low income area or high income area
- Cleanliness
- Water resource availability
- Air pollution data
- Access to civic amenities
- How active is the resident community
- How green is your area
- Guidance value for property in the neighbourhood
Given all these parameters, can we figure out a way to calculate the liveability index of your neighbourhood?
This is a data based mechanism to indicate the best neighbourhoods - it could help people decide where to live. In the long run, it is hoped that such an evaluation would help in developing discourse based on hard facts and data, inducing a healthy competition among MLAs, corporators to develop their constituencies.
