### :question: I'm missing the first log messages after (re)start. What can I do?

You are probably connected to your device via the USB connection, which takes some time to initialize and will make you miss some log messages.

If your device is based on a esp32-S3 and you have access to the default serial console (look for "debug interface" or `TXD0/RXD0`), then you can use that interface instead, making sure you won't miss any log messages.

For this, disable any `ARDUINO_USB_CDC_ON_BOOT` and `USE_USB_CDC_CONSOLE` definitions in the `build_flags` section of the `.ini` file of your device type. Do that by preference in the `platform_override.ini` file, like this:

```ini
[override]
build_flags =
; -- make sure console is serial, not USB
-UARDUINO_USB_CDC_ON_BOOT
-UUSE_USB_CDC_CONSOLE
```

.. and recompile. See the section on compiling for more information.

This goes both ways. If you have a suitable device and want to use the USB interface as console, just activate the 2 settings, by using `-D` instead of `-U`.
