As an instrument scientist on OFFSPEC, I want to be able to control up to 3 SMC300-5 power supplies.

Acceptance Criteria

  • As a scientist I can control 3 SMC300-5 power supplies

Notes

  1. This came up as a support call for SECI when they discovered they wanted to run two more than they currently had available there - @davidkeymer extended that code

Marking as training as this should be a relatively straightforward undertaking to add the extra IOCs

Creating these IOCs unearthed some problems with some of SM300's macros, see:

OK, story with this is that they are called SM300/5 (https://www.cnrood.com/en/sm300-5) and are power supplies rather than the homegrown sm300 sandals sample changer motion controller. Device isn't very complicated, follows SCPI and only has a few commands. I suggest we create a ticket to remove the existing SM300 IOC, and create another called DESM or something similar.

Before doing that we should actually check OFFSPEC still have/want them Have talked to CK from POLREF about the sm300/5, they are likely used for spin-echo experiments on OFFSPEC which are currently not done, though they would likely want support for them as they were used in SECI. The PSU is a rack mount device with an rs-232 connection in this case. We have a copy of the VI and it doesn't involve many commands at all. We can probably get hold of one to test with, but would have to contact RD as he does the spin echo stuff on OFFSPEC.

Hannah and I are going to have a go at writing a driver for one as they are fairly simple

@rerpha @boeuf-codes I have edited title and description of this ticket to match the new scope.

In discussion with OFFSPEC scientists, this is only needed for the spin-echo system on OFFSPEC, not for day-1 IBEX migration.
