I just noticed a cleaner way to do this, more akin to the action taken for #88. Sorry for the junk PR.

I've opened #376, which addresses the same problem in a way more patterned after issue #88's resolution.
Having done it both ways, I'm not sure which approach is better, so feel free to just accept whichever one you like and close the other one.
