Triangulating Passive Scanner
Small self-powered, non-orienting detector which can only detect the distance to the nearest Kethane deposit. To reveal deposits, multiple satellites must simultaneously orbit and exchange data. The combined network must exceed a confidence threshold in order to reveal a cell, so multiple detectors stacked on the same vessel or orbit won't work.Visual concept: Array of antennas (at least one for detecting and one for communication) with a small RTG at the base for power. See: Advanced Sensor Array subsystem from Homeworld 2.

Pressure-fed Kethane Engine
High-thrust, Kethane-powered, pressure-fed rocket engine. Maximum thrust and specific impulse varies with acceleration felt in the direction of thrust. At high thrust output, back-pressure forms and can begin to decrease fuel flow, potentially causing pogo oscillations. When operating normally, the engine should provide high thrust at fairly high efficiency, especially at lower atmospheric pressure. TWR is exceptionally good since the engine has a simplified design. In microgravity, the engine has insufficient pressure to start; RCS or another engine can bootstrap it.
