The issue was caused by checking
.eof()to determine the end of the stream. However,.eof()returnstrueonly after an attempt to read past the end of the stream. As a result, an extra element was incorrectly added to the end of thedistancesarray.Reference: std::basic_ios::eof() - cppreference
